Description
"Orenburg Down Shawl" Gallery is a place where one of the main symbols of the region is revealed as art, history and a living tradition. Here you can see the famous cobwebs, warm shawls and down shawls created by the hands of Orenburg craftsmen. Each product preserves the most complex openwork patterns, fine handwork and a special connection with the nature of the steppe region.
The exhibition tells about the origin and development of the down knitting industry in Orenburg region, which is more than two centuries old. It is based on the collection of the Orenburg Regional Museum of Fine Arts: among the works presented there are samples from the beginning of the 20th century and products from the second half of the last century. Visitors will learn why the down of Orenburg goats is considered one of the thinnest in the world, how patterns are created, and why a real spider's web can pass through an engagement ring.
The gallery is located in the historical center of Orenburg, on Volodarsky Street, 13. This is a space where traditional craft sounds modern: thematic exhibitions, excursions and meetings dedicated to the craftsmen, culture and the future of the Orenburg down shawl are held here.
