Description
The "Hermitage‑Eurasia" Cultural Center, the fifth satellite of the State Hermitage Museum and at the same time a department of the Orenburg Regional Museum of Fine Arts, has become a real point of attraction for art connoisseurs in Orenburg region.
Opening in September 2024, it embodied the idea of the "Grand Hermitage": now the treasures of world culture have become closer to the residents and guests of the region, and Orenburg has taken its special place in a large museum family, which already has the "Hermitage‑Kazan", "Hermitage‑Vyborg", "Hermitage‑Siberia" and "Hermitage‑Ural".
The center is located in a historic building of the early 20th century. Its architecture preserves the spirit of the era: the open main staircase, arched windows, spiral staircases and stucco details have been carefully preserved here, and at the entrance you can see authentic tiles from the time of the City Duma. The 1,150-square-meter space is designed to combine scale and intimacy: the large exhibition hall on the second floor hosts rotating exhibitions from the Hermitage collection, and the small hall on the ground floor reveals the originality of local art — in particular, a collection of naive paintings, including works by Sergei Stepanov, whose work is included in the world encyclopedia. naive art.
The main pearl of the center is the only Jasper Room in the world: it was created by Orenburg craftsmen from the picturesque Orsk jasper and literally turns acquaintance with art into a tactile and emotional experience.
In addition to exhibitions, "Hermitage‑Eurasia" is full of educational activities: lectures, master classes, meetings with artists, scientific conferences and round tables are held here, and inclusive and volunteer programs make art accessible and understandable to a wide variety of audiences.
