Buzuluk, Pushkin Park

Description

Pushkin Park in Buzuluk is one of the largest and most beloved public spaces with an area of about 19 hectares. Its history dates back to 1865, when, on the initiative of the Buzuluk district zemstvo, it was decided to establish a city garden, and the park received the name of the great poet on May 9, 1936, when a bust was installed here. Pushkin.

Buzuluchans used to call the park "lilac" because of the abundance of lilacs on the alleys, and even earlier, in 1769, this territory was described by academician Peter Simon Pallas, who mentioned the Buzuluk fortress and the small lake (now Bannoe) located nearby; there is also a curious connection with Pushkin himself — in 1833, the poet during a trip I could visit these places in the Orenburg province, because part of the park's territory was once a battlefield near the Buzuluk fortress.

Over the years, the park was the center of urban life: a brass band played here, fireworks were staged, rallies and concerts were held, and during the Great Patriotic War, an evacuated Ukrainian theater staged performances on its territory and soldiers from local hospitals rested. After periods of neglect, the park has found a new life: large-scale landscaping began in 2009, and major reconstruction took place in 2018-2020 as part of the national project "Housing and Urban Environment".

Today, the park is divided into two main zones: in the upper part, guests will find cozy alleys with swings, benches and steles with quotations from Pushkin's works, as well as a monument to the poet, which has become the main attraction, and the lower part, located closer to the river, is focused on active recreation — there are children's play complexes, sports facilities, "green maze" and a pump track; it is convenient to ride a bicycle, roller skates or a scooter along the paved paths. The park regularly becomes a venue for city events and traditional clean—up parties, and the well-developed infrastructure, including public toilets and a video surveillance system, makes staying here comfortable and safe - it's a great place for walks, family vacations and exploring the history of the city.
