Description

On August 11, 1918, exactly 103 years ago, at the age of 65, monk Ermolai, who lived in one of the attractions of our area, the Cave Log, died. This cave is located two kilometers northeast of the village of Sorokino, which was founded in the twenties of the nineteenth century by Tambov state peasants. Here, in 1853, in the family of the poorest peasant Gerasim Fedoseyev, a son was born, named Ermolai.

At the age of 24, he decides to enter the monastic way of the cross - to enter a monastery.

In 1897, Ermolai returned to his native village. In rural society, he uses his changed double surname: Ermolai Gerasimovich Prokhorov – Fedoseev. It was here, in the eastern part of this ravine, that Ermolai adapted an old cave for housing.

Steep wooded ravine on the left bank of the Sadak River, 1.8 km long, up to 30 meters deep, 120 meters wide. A small spring and a cave with a wooden cross were consecrated by the church. Birch, aspen, holly maple, linden, thickets of steppe cherry and lush meadow vegetation. Upper Permian limestones and mudstones are exposed in the cliffs, among which there are sandstones and perforated perforated conglomerate-breccia.

The object is a natural monument of regional significance in the Orenburg region, which has a special protection regime. Information about prohibitions and restrictions can be found here.
