Description
1 km northeast of S. Rodnikovka. Geological (stratigraphic) natural monument, the area is 8.0 hectares. It is a reference section of the deposits of the Kazan stage.
They are a series of almost sheer cliffs with a length of 2 km. The most significant are two cliffs, in which the peculiar (Abdulinsky) one is well represented the type of section of the lower pack of the upper Kazan sublayer. The peculiarity of this type is the chalk–like appearance of the rocks. Not only limestones and marls have a whitish chalky color, but also sandstones on calcareous cement. Writing chalk is found in some thin layers, which looks little different from similar rocks of the Cretaceous period.
Normal horizontal layering is characteristic. The layers range from massive to thin. In addition to whitish rocks, the section contains interlayers of red-brown and brown mudstones. In sandstones, a greenish tinge is superimposed on the prevailing whitish color tone, while in limestones and marls it is bluish. There are porous-cavernous, heavily karst, limestone varieties. The apparent thickness of the incision is at least 30 m (total along different cliffs).
Peculiar springs flow from the lower (downstream of the Rodnikovka) cliff, which we consider as an independent hydrogeological object "Hanging springs of the Rodnikovka".
