Description

The monument to Buzuluchans, victims of radiation accidents, the Chernobyl tragedy, participants in tests and combat exercises, as well as citizens affected by man-made disasters, was unveiled on September 14, 2012, on the anniversary of the nuclear tests at the Totsk test site. This date was not chosen by chance: on September 14, 1954, during combined—arms exercises at the test site, a nuclear explosion was carried out, the consequences of which affected the fate of hundreds of military and civilians - many of them were exposed to radiation contamination, and it was important to preserve their memory for future generations.

""""The Union of Chernobyl Victims", ""Buzuluk Council of Veterans" and "Union of Veterans of special risk units" were the initiators of the creation of the memorial: they appealed to the city administration with a request to perpetuate the feat and tragedy of fellow countrymen. The monument serves as a reminder of the courage of those who participated in the elimination of accidents and risked their lives during dangerous tests, and of the price that many families had to pay due to the effects of radiation exposure.
