Orenburg, the square named after Lenin Street

Description

An ancient park stone gazebo-rotunda, installed in the city center of Orenburg in Lenin Square on Leninskaya Street. The Orenburg rotunda is an architectural monument of the 19th century, it was made during the time of Orenburg governor Peter Kirillovich Essen (1817-1830) and installed in one of the picturesque parks located in the Trans-Ural Grove of the city. The location of the gazebo-rotunda was changed in the 1890s - the gazebo was moved from the Zauralnaya Grove to Alexandrovsky Square (today's Lenin Square).

The gazebo is a striking example of the gardening and park culture and architecture of Orenburg in the 19th century. It is known that the governor of Orenburg, Peter Kirillovich Essen, liked to relax in the gardens and parks that were established in the city by his order. One of the versions of the origin of the gazebo says that it was built to hold celebrations related to Peter Kirillovich Essen's retirement. Initially, a fountain was installed in the central part of the constructed gazebo, made in the form of a sculpture of Cupid (the god of love in ancient Roman mythology). In the middle of the 20th century, the fountain was removed (it has not been preserved to date) and a bench was installed instead.

In 1998, the Orenburg Rotunda was restored to mark the 255th anniversary of the city of Orenburg and the 200th anniversary of the poet Alexander Pushkin. A new sculpture depicting a mother bathing her two children was installed in the vacant central place of the Rotunda. A fountain gushes from a tilted jug of a woman in summer.
