Description

The theater was founded in 1900.

Buguruslan State Drama Theater named after N.V. Gogol is one of the oldest provincial theaters in Russia, and opened its 121st theatrical season on October 16, 2021. The history of its creation is closely connected with the movement for a sober lifestyle. On March 11, 1898, architect Khilinsky submitted to the provincial government for approval the "Project of a national tea house with a theater." On the occasion of the 90th anniversary of Nikolai Gogol's birth, the first theater building was erected. "The Inspector" and "The Marriage" by N.V. Gogol, plays by A.N. Ostrovsky, were given lectures and staged here by representatives of the local intelligentsia. Among the actors and directors were respected people of the city: Sergei Arkadyevich Aksakov, a member of the City Duma, a nobleman, the nephew of S.T. Aksakov; Nikolai Nikolaevich Rychkov, the chairman of the city council, was a regular organizer of charity evenings, the director of all performances and the performer of the main roles in them.

In 2015, after reconstruction, a modern theater building was opened with a large stage equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and a beautiful auditorium with 270 seats. The theater's troupe has 21 artists, and its repertoire includes 30 performances (20 for adults and 10 for children). In 2019, 202 performances were performed, which were watched by 27,812 spectators.

The main director is Vyacheslav Sorokin.
