Description
The Buzuluk Museum of Local Lore traces its history back to 1954 — the official decision to open it was made on November 22, but the collection began in 1951-1952: thanks to the efforts of the initiative group and the help of local residents, it was possible to collect about 2,460 exhibits, including natural objects, historical and social artifacts, scientific archival, geological and economic materials.
Lavrenty Egorovich Rozhnov, a participant in the Civil and Great Patriotic Wars, became the first director of the museum, and at first the institution was housed in the same building as the fire department on Oktyabrskaya Street, with an exhibition space of just under 200 square meters. In the following decades, the museum staff was actively engaged in collecting, describing and systematizing materials — they paid special attention to the events of the Civil and Great Patriotic Wars, as well as information about famous people associated with Buzuluk, from Leo Tolstoy to Yu. Romanenko, and the fund gradually grew, eventually exceeding 20,000 items.
"Russian Art Nouveau" style museum has been located in a historic building in the center of Buzuluk, 56 Lenin Street, since June 1979. It was built in the second decade of the 20th century in the Russian Art Nouveau style by order of merchant Podrezov and recognized as a cultural heritage site of regional significance; a spacious area of more than a thousand square meters allowed for the deployment of numerous permanent exhibitions and exhibition halls, where Today, different facets of the history and nature of the region are revealed — from ancient archaeological finds and numismatic collections to ethnographic objects, works of art and thematic collections dedicated to space and local history. In addition to exhibitions, the museum conducts educational work, organizes lectures, excursions and workshops, helping to preserve and popularize the heritage of Western Orenburg region.
