Description
The museum building was built in 1814 by architect Mikhailo Malakhov. It housed the city duma, the city magistrate and the orphan's court.
The museum's collection is based on the collection of works by Academician of painting, one of the most interesting representatives of the late Peredvizhism, Lukian Vasilyevich Popov (1873-1914), who was born and worked for many years in Orenburg.
The main concept of the museum is a reflection of the artistic life of the region in the general context of the development of Russian national culture. A significant place in the collection is occupied by works of Orenburg painters, as well as exhibits related in one way or another to local history and culture.
The museum carries out active collecting, scientific and popularization activities, organizes a wide range of exhibitions, scientific readings, lectures, museum "Mondays" and is one of the most important cultural centers of the city and the region. The Orenburg Regional Museum of Fine Arts offers guided tours of the permanent exhibition and temporary exhibitions. The halls of L. V. Popov and the expositions of Russian and decorative and applied art are particularly popular among the audience.
