Description

Back in 1838, the construction of the so-called New Settlement began to liberate the city from dilapidated buildings and to receive migrants north of the historical fortress. After the abolition of the fortress, the demolition of the rampart and a major urban fire in 1864, it was significantly expanded.

In the 1860s and 70s, Tatar settlers actively built up houses in Novaya Sloboda, the northern border of which was moving further away from the Caravanserai Mosque. At their request, the Orenburg City Duma, in a journal dated January 25, 1879, decided to allocate a plot of land in 1,591 square meters. fathoms. To build a new mosque on Konno-Sennaya Square, at the beginning of Nizhegorodskaya St. (now Tereshkova St., 10a). The choice of location was largely explained by the proximity of the now-built-up Old Muslim Cemetery, which was located on the site south of Rybakovskaya St. between the lines of modern Ave. Pobedy and Tereshkova streets. The protocol of the Construction Department dated 04.12.1879. the architectural design of the cathedral mosque was approved and approved by the Orenburg governor, and the journal of the Orenburg Provincial Government dated 18.03.1880 allowed its construction.

The construction of the stone mosque, 34 yards long and 16 yards wide, lasted for 5 years and was completed only in 1885. Initially, 350 of the 800 parishioners of the Caravanserai mosque were expelled to the new parish. In 1890, the cathedral mosque had 700 parishioners (400 men and 300 women), and by 1908 it had about 2,000 people, although exact lists were not kept. Among them, there was a large proportion of merchants from the nearby food (Meat) bazaar on Konno-Sennaya Square, owners of bakeries, inns and inns were noted, and a significant part of the parishioners worked at the city mills and engaged in handicrafts.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the parish of the Cathedral mosque covered the eastern part of Novaya Slobodka within the boundaries of Nizhegorodskaya (now Tereshkova), Surinskaya (now Postnikova), Voskresenskaya (now Proletarian) and Shottovskaya (now Sukhareva) streets. The largest number of Muslims lived on Sakmarskaya (now Ordzhonikidze), Feldsherskaya (now Popova), Nizhny Novgorod (now Tereshkova) streets. The mosque operated a mekteb with a 5-year course, which taught the alphabet, Tatar reading, writing and dictation, etymology (sarf) and syntax (nahu) of the Arabic language, the basics of Islam, the Koran and the rules of its orthoepic reading (tajweed), the history of the prophets and Islam, hadith, arithmetic and geography.

In 1910, 4 teachers taught 86 boys here. The parish had a vacuum property: in 1903, Abdulgazim Khakimovich Abdulvaliev bequeathed to him 3 outbuildings (in 1905-16 they brought income for 3,301 rubles); in 1908, Bibi-Kandalata Sharifkhuzina – a house with household services; in 1916, Akhmetsha Iksanov – an outbuilding with outbuildings.

The senior imams of the cathedral mosque were K.I. Kutyev (1881-1907) and Abdulgaziz Sadretdinovich Abdulkarimov (1907-32). By the decree of the Central Volga Regional Executive Committee dated 09/18/1931, the mosque was closed. An orphanage and a sewing factory were located on its territory. During the period of liberalization of the religious policy of the Soviet state, the Chkalov (Orenburg) Muslim community, numbering about 8 thousand people, raised the issue of reopening a mosque in the city. It opened in August 1945. The imams of the Orenburg Cathedral Mosque were Z.M. Rakhmankulov (1945-53), H.L. Latypov (1953-54, 1965-72), F.S. Sharafutdinov (1954-56), A.S. Murtazin (1956-65), Ya.A. Imametdinov (1972-84). Since 1985, A.-B. Khairullin has been the main imam-khatib of the mosque.
